JASMINE HOTEL AND GUEST HOUSE

Deeply nestled and busting with activity not seen in more than thirty years, hidden amongst rice paddies, as well as jungles, and stretched along the Xiem Reap River in Cambodia, rests the small provincial capital of Xiem Reap Town, gateway to the millenium-old and somewhat-ancient temple ruins of the Khmer Empire known as Angkor Wat.

Hello and welcome to Xiem Reap, Cambodia (Kampuchea). Home of the Ancient Center
of the Angkor Civilization created by the mighty Khmer Peoples.

Xiem Reap is the village where we all stay during our visit to Angkor Wat. Although this region of Xiem Reap has been receiving visitors for more than 100 years, it has managed to maintain a certain provincial quaintness unseen anywhere else in the entire world. The warmth of the Cambodian people will overwhelm you with excitement and pleasure.

Below is a view of the great Temple of Angkor Wat as seen from a Hot-Air Balloon ride
made available by Mr. Kunn and his staff at the Jasmine Hotel.

And speaking of pleasure and comfort I would guess that you, the visitor, would like to know where one would find the most afordable and comfortable hotel in the city of Xiem Reap, Cambodia. Well that would be the Jasmine Hotel whose Street Sign is posted below here.

Here is Mr. Sarat. Mr. Sarat was my personal guide, Motorcyle transportation driver and translator while I stayed at the Jasmine Hotel in Xiem Reap.
Mr. Sarat is one of Mr. Kunn's qualified staff members and translators who will drive you by motorcycle
to and from any of the more than fifty temples within the region of Xiem Reap and angkor Wat.
He is more than willing to share with you his time and speaks flawless perfect english
and will share with you the histories of the temples you will want to visit within the region of Angkor to the Bateay Srey (Temple of the Women), and will take his personal time to satisfy your every question with honest answers
of the construction and history of the temples and the Khmer peoples who built them.

Above Mr. Sarat has just discovered a giant mushroom (mushroom is pronounced as 'psat' in Cambodian) for me to photograph.
Mr. Sarat was most kind and gracious and helpful to me during my three days of shroom collecting.
He even helped in the hunt for new mushroom species with the many children of the region
and was instrumental in helping me collect several of the new specimens pictured below.

Another photo of your host Mr. Kunn

For an additional treat while at the Jasmine Guest House,
ask Mr. Kunn to arrange for you a visit to the Miniture Replica City of Angkor Wat,
Angkor Bayon and Bantrey Srey. They were built by Mr. Dy Proeung at #16,
Quartier Slokram, Sud pagoda, Polinka, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Telephone: 012686642.
Here is one photo of Mr Proeung and one of his miniture replicas.
This fine gentleman was recently presented an award by the King of Cambodia
for his craftsmanship and advice in supervising in the reconstruction
and direction of many of the restoration projects going on at the surrounding temples in the region.

The first two images are of Mr. Proeung in a painting as a young man and the second image is Mr. Proeung at 72,
sittin front of n his miniture city of Angkor Wat and he is still working on minitures, through
directing the supervision of the reconstruction of Angkor Wat and other temples in the region of Xiem Reap. In the year 2000, Mr. Proeung was presented By his Majesty, King Sihanouk of Cambodia, with a silver chalice, ribbon and flowers in commemoration of his life-long work in scultpting the specifics of the temples of Angkor. A must see experience.

And here is a miniture view of Angkor Wat
and another of the infamous Banteay Srey (the Temple of the Women).
This latter temple is practically unscathed after almost 10 centuries and was discovered by the French in 1914.

Finally I would like to post a few beautiful photographs of the temples I visited here Xiem Reap while a guest of Mr. Kunn,
His friend and employee Mr. Sarat and the rest of the hotel Jasmine staff who made my stay
at their Hotel, a most memorable pleasure which I will recall for years to come.

Below are three images each of Angkor Wat, Angkor Bayon, Angkor Thom and Ta Proehm,
The latter three images are were they filmed "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" while in Cambodia).

ANGKOR WAT

ANGKOR BAYON

TA PROEHM

ANGKOR THOM

BENG MEALEA
This is a beautiful temple 56 km from Angkor Wat. It is where they filmed, "The Two Brothers" movie about two tigers (one blue-eyed and one brown-eyed) by the Director of the movie, "The Bear."

Be sure to ask Mr. Kunn to arrange a jungle trek and visit to other temples outside of the Angkor compound. Many never get to experience these fine escapes offered by Mr. Kunn and be able to visit the poor people in the many outlaying villages and help them with donations to these villages for clothing, books and pencils for educating those who are to poor to be given a chance at a better life.
