The habitat of mushrooms found at a private farm in Ban Thurian, Thailand

Ruminants and their Shroom Habitats Ban Thurian
Koh Samui, Thailand

Hello to all lovers of mushrooms. Here is a photographic essay of some of the various habitats of Psilocybe cubensis/Psilocybe subcubensis and Copelandia cyanescens. Other non-actiove species of mushrooms observed in these areas of Ban Thurian include Lepiota species, Panaeolus antillarum, Panaeolus sphinctrinus, Conocybe species, Psathyrella species, Reeshi species, and Bolbitius species to name a few. Mushrooms are found either growing directly out of manure or in manure piles heaped around the bases of coconut trees (Cocos nucifera) and on top soil where manure is piled to created powdered fertilizers for sale to the public markets located at various villages on Koh Samui Island. This Pictorial features habitats from various areas in Ban Thurian focusing on a private farm area and also of an annual Buffalo Arena where both of the above species grow in profusion. This region is habitated by both Pink and Gray Water Buffalo (quai). The farm area and buffalo arena are in the middle of large vast land areas known as rai's (Thai land measurements). On this farm there exists the harvesting of coconuts for copra production, cattle tending, commerical cultivation of tobacco and collection of wild fruits for sale in public markets, as well as the manufacture of fertilizers from the collection and processing of local manure situated on these properties.

My friend Mr. Boon first showed me the hidden habitats of Psilocybe cubensis on his property. Here he chops away tall grass to expose the hidden mushrooms. Eventually I was able to find them on my own.

In the first iamge, Psilocybe cubensis from a grassy area. In the 2nd image from powdered manure as seen above being bagged

Copelandia cyanescens from a grassy area in decomposed buffalo manure heaps. They also grow in open mowed grassy areas.
